  1. 1.it negatively impact china by has eating away of one third of the country farmland.

2.china was trying to get the population all the food they could produce.

3.they cheated nature by injecting chemicals on lands.the positive was that they began popping soil with artificial fertilizers and pesticides.

4.this could lead to a crisis of food because of them digging deeper just for food.

    5. Water crisis, energy crisis and the food production are all connected to each other because they are culture problems.

    6. Its the quickest trigger for a collapse because people need food and with out food in there home places people will leave there homes and find a new home with food.this is what causes a collapse.

7.his purpose of stem food crisis is if people dont have food then that could lead to a crisis.

8.the dangerous catalyst that made the other crisis we have discussed spiral out of control was the climate cahnge(global warming).

9.what i think is because people probably because people were thinking and worrying about the other important things they need to get done.

10.the lessons we can learn is we ahould pay more attention to what is happening to the climate changes.another thing we should do is that we should gather food for our people buh we should not damage our environment while gathering food.also we should have enough food for every one to feed so everyone should be happy about it.

  2. 1. The negative consequence of overgrazing and intensive agriculture is that a third of the farmland became infertile.
    2. China was challenged with supporting their expanding population without industrialized farmlands.
    3. "Cheating nature" required administration of chemicals into marginally fertile land. Additionally, modern countries used artificial fertilizers and pesticides to fill the soil. A positive impact of "cheating nature" was that it increased agricultural production, promoting more food provisions for the massive population.
    4. Modernizing food production can also entail a food crisis because, while in the process of digging for food, topsoil is being dispersed; major nutrients to help plants develop are in topsoil, and without those nutrients our food will not sprout, transitioning into a crisis.
    5. Food production, energy crisis and water crisis are all in relation because, without energy food production will become lengthy, and food production demands a hefty amount of water, resulting in a water crisis, and without water, food production will cease, ultimately leading to collapse.
    6. Due to nations exporting mass food amounts to other less fortunate nations, in eventuality farmlands will cease to exist. This makes food an easy collapse cause.
    7. Jared Diamond's solutions to stem the food crisis are to purchase food that is locally produced, to grow organic food, farmers need to be weary of soil erosion, have a stable water supply, and be economically realistic.
    8. The treacherous stimulus that has made other crises become chaotic is an alteration in the climate.
    9. I believe that people do not highly regard changes in the climate because, they have the mentality that our nation is invincible, and they haven't truly experienced severe climate changes that can make our society fall.
    10. Lessons that can be taken from this documentary are:
    a. Purchase merchandise in moderation.
    b. Be weary of not only the good that can result from agriculture, but also the bad.
    c. Reduce the use of greenhouse gases, and think about how they are shaping the environment.

  3. 1- The combination of overgrazing and intensive agriculture has negatively impacted China by eating away up to one third of the countries farmland.

2- China is caught in a vice grip of competing choices according to their growing population and the expansion of it's desserts.

3- Modern countries have “cheated nature” since the 1950s by injecting chemicals into marginally productive lands. They began pumping the soil with artificial fertilizers and pesticides. The positive results were that crop yields had increased five fold, feeding a growing world population.

4- The modernization of food production can also lead to a crisis in food production by using gigantic machines to cultivate the land, destroying the soil. The topsoil layer of 8 inches was being blown away and inch by inch we were practically digging ourselves deeper into a global food crisis.

5- Food production, the energy crisis and the water crisis are all connected to each other because food production requires a lot of energy and water in order for the crops to keep harvesting, leading to all three crisis.

6- Food is one of the quickest triggers for collapse because there are nations that produce more and more food transporting it to less less nations with higher inputs of technology and energy, making farmlands loose all of their food production, leading it to collapse.

7- Some solutions that Jared Diamond proposes to stem the food crisis are:
~ food has to be grown sustainably
~ there has to be a water supply for the indefinite future
~ food should be grown organically
~ and farmers have to be aware of soil erosion.

8- The dangerous catalyst that made the other crises we have discussed spiral out of control is a major shift in the climate.

9- I think people do not take climate change seriously because they believe that they can get past through it, little do they know is that it can really affect them at some point in their life, leading their nation to a future collapse.

10- 3 valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are:
~ be aware of the climate changes
~ farmlands should produce more food wisely
~ and nation should be aware of future global food crisis.

  5. 1. Overgrazing and intensive agriculture caused 1/3 of the farmland to become infertile.
    2. China was caught in a vice grip of competing choices because of trying to support their overpopulation.
    3. Modern countries have “cheated nature” since the 1950s by injecting chemicals into fertile land and by using fertilizers and pesticides in the soil.
    4. The modernization of food production can also lead to a crisis in food production due to destroying the soil and removing the nutrients which results in food not growing.
    5. Problems like food production, the energy crisis and the water crisis are all connected to each other because in order to produce food you need water and in order to produce the food and water you need energy.
    6. Food is one of the quickest triggers for collapse because nations who do produce food export to nations that cannot which then results in the breakdown of farmland due to overproduction.
    7. Some solutions that Jared Diamond proposes to stem the food crisis are to grow organic food, make farmers more aware of soil erosion, and to have enough of a water supply.
    8. The dangerous catalyst that made the other crises we have discussed spiral out of control is a change in the climate.
    9. I think that people do not take climate change seriously because we think that we are invincible.
    10. Valuable lessons are that we should be more aware of climate change and the outcome from it, we should buy organic products when possible, and we should think about the bad that comes from agriculture.

  6. 1. The combination of overgrazing and intensive agriculture negatively impacted China because 1/3’s of the farmland became infertile and it could take up to 500 years to use the land again.
    2. China caught in a vice grip of competing choices because they had a huge population and no industrialized farmlands. That means that they didn’t have enough food to feed their population.
    3. Modern countries “cheated nature” since the 1950s by putting gasoline which gave more fertile land. That helped us grow more food for our growing population.
    4. The modernization of food production can lead to a crisis in food production by us using to more water. When we use more water for producing food we are going low on water when people are already trying to get “blue gold”.
    5. Problems like food production, the energy crisis and the water crisis are all connected to each other because you need water to grow food and if you don’t have water you can’t grow food
    6. Food is one of the quickest triggers for collapse because people start rioting is they don’t get food. Jared Diamond said that when he was in Chilly and they were having a food crisis people were rioting.
    7. Some solutions that Jared Diamond proposes to stem the food crisis were to have a stable water supply, grow organic food to let the farmers aware about the soil erosion.
    8. The dangerous catalyst that made the other crises we have discussed spiral out of control is the climate change. The global temperature has gone up 5 degrees than normal.
    9. I think people do not take climate change seriously because it’s not affecting them right away unless it is damaging them. An example given by Jared Diamond was that when someone shoots a bullet in a room people empty the room within seconds, meaning when they are in threat is when they react.
    10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is to grow food organically, make people seem like global warming is a huge threat to them right now and they need to start taking actions now. And another lesson is to make farmers aware of soil erosion problem because they are the ones growing crops.

  7. 1: The overgrazing and intensive agriculture negatively impacted China in a way that 1/3 of China's farmland was infertile.

2: China's caught in a vice grip because of their expanding dessert and an overgrowing population.

3: They cheated nature by injecting artificial fertilizer and pesticides. It affected them positively in a way that the crops had increased five folds, that could feed the growing population.

4: Modernization of food production lead to a crisis because they were destroying the topsoil and and digging for food. Topsoil hold most nutrients to help crops grow if it is being destroyed a food crisis will occur.

5: A food and water crisis are connected. Because if there no water, we will have nothing to grow crops because we need water for food. Which will lead to collapse.

6: Food is one of the the quickest way for collapse because, people survive on food. Without food it will be impossible for us to go on. Which will lead to collapse.

7:Jared Diamond's solution was to grow organic food, have a stable water supply water and food has to be sustain-ably grown.

8: The dangerous catalyst that made the other crisis we have discussed spiral out of control is climate change.

9: People don't take climate change seriously because they don't think it's really a problem, they think can past through it easily, they also haven't experience severe weather change so they wouldn't how bad climate change can be.

10: Three valuable lesson from this documentary:
~always be prepared for the good and bad times.
~ always be aware of climate change.
~ we should produce wisely on farmlands

    ReplyDelete

  8. 1. The agriculture negatively impacted combinations as that the dust storm already have been eaten 1/3 of the country farm land.
    2. China caught in vice grip by having including the increasing population and expansion of their deserts.
    3. The positive results are pumping soil artificial fertilizer and pesticides.
    4. The modernization of food production also lead to a crisis in food production cause we was restoring soil so that we have more food but less land.
    5. The food production, the energy crisis and the water crisis are all connected because they all sacrifice the same thing at the same time plus if we didn't have no water that's means to food and no food means no more energy which lead them into collapse.
    6. Food is the quickest triggers because their is it not a lot of food on the plantation because other nations need some of those foods which means that the nation are gonna go to a different country to feed their family and themselves.
    7. Jared Diamond proposes to stem the food crisis by having to enough crops that are already grown and making sure that the nation has enough water supply to last them awhile.
8.The dangerous catalyst that made the other crises we have discussed spiral out of control by having climate change and global warming.
9.People don't take climate change seriously because they think that since they haven't had very bad weather that it won't come today or tomorrow.
    10. 3 valuable lessons can be learned:
    * always be prepared for what's coming or what's maybe coming later on.
*be aware of climate change or global warming.
    * we should plant crops and farm enough food so that we can have enough food when a bad storm will hit us.

  11. 1) over grazing can cause a number of things to go wrong with your crops
    2) China is trying to compete with their choices of over population
    3) some countries have been injecting chemicals in there crops to help them
    4) the large machinery that is use to help farm is damaging the land and can lead to erosion
    5) they are all connected because crops need a lot of energy and water to grow
    6) food is one of the main reasons for collapse
    7) food shouldn't have all those chemicals they should be organic
    8) this has to do with the shift in climate
    9) I think people take what they have for granted until there isn't any left

    2. The China is caught in a vice grip of competing choices because they are trying to control their overgrowing population.
    3. The modern countries “cheated nature” since 1950s by using chemicals to have fertile land. The positive results were that it helped grow more crops.
4.The modernization of food production can also lead to a crisis in food production because it can ruin the soil of the land.
    5. The energy crisis, the water crisis and the food production are all connected together because each of these can lead to another crisis. The crops (food) needs water and energy to grow.
    6. Food is one of the quickest triggers for collapse because food is one of the most important things. We need food to live and without it there would be a big problem.
    7. Some solutions that Jared Diamond proposes to stem the food crisis is by saying to grow organic foods.
    8. The dangerous catalyst that made the other crisis we have discussed spiral out of control is the change in climate.
    9. I think people do not take climate change seriously because people feel like its normal and it changes all the time. There are other more important things.
    10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are
    1. Plant organic products because they are better.
    2. We should always prepared if there is ever a food crisis.
    3. What is happening because of the climate change.

  14. 1) The combination of overgrazing and intensive agriculture negatively impacted China because the land became infertile.
    2) Their overgrowing population and their expansion of the desert.
    3) They had cheating nature by pumping soil into fertilizers and pesticides .The effects were mind boggling .Then by the end of the century crops had increased by 5 folds. The positive results was that they poured a lot of petroleum on the soil as a bi-product of all of the artificial fertilizing and using enormous machines to cultivate the land we had destroyed the soil.
    4) It can lead to a crisis in food production because we are destroying the topsoil and we keep digging for food. However what we don’t know is that the top soil holds the key nutrients we need to help the crops grow.
    5) The agriculture problem interacts with the water problem because if we have no water to water the food, the crops will eventually dry out and result in a collapse.
    6) If we don’t have a food at a certain time of day, there would be a disaster. And when we do get our hands on some food we would rush to buy it.
    7) –The farms have to be rowing the food productively
-have a water supply for the indefinite of our future
-food has to be as much organically grown as possible
    8) The dangerous catalyst was climate control.
    9) The reasons people may not take climate change seriously:
    1. We have become so distanced from nature, after centuries of trying to wield our power over it and generations of relegating our children to spending more time indoors, we have lost some of our innate ability to care about the natural world.
    2. It costs money to do some of the right green things.
    3. The lack of the public’s concern. (They may not see it as a problem)
    10) Always be prepared instead of afraid for the worst case scenarios, notice changes in the climate , make sure we have enough food to feed the population and not just ourselves.

  17. 1. The combination of overgrazing and extensive agriculture negatively impacted china because most of the countries land became unfertile.
    2. China is caught in a vice grip of competing choices because they had more people than fertile land. Therefore, they won’t be able to supply their people with food that they need.
    3. The modern countries “cheated nature” by spray the crops and pumping the soil with pesticides to make the crops grow bigger.
    4. The modernization of food production can also lead to a crisis in food production because while providing a good amount of food we are digging up the top layer of soil which is a part of having fertile soil. 22.
    - Purchase merchandise in moderation.
    - Be weary of not only the good that can result from agriculture, but also the bad.
    - Reduce the use of greenhouse gases, and think about how they are shaping the environment.

    4. Modernizing food production lead to a crisis of infertile land and digging for food. Topsoil is crucial for crop growth and that being destroyed can lead to a food crisis.
    5. Crops need water and energy to grow without it it's literally not possible.
    6. Food is the quickest trigger for collapse because a population that consist of humans that you know need to eat to stay alive has their crucial resource go dry deaths will occur and rebellion will arise.
    7. Jared diamonds method to stern a food crisis is to grow organically

4 According to the documentary the modernization of food production also lead to a crisis in food production because the machines we use for the crops make things worse.
5.water crisis, energy crisis, and food production are connected as culture problems.
6 Food will trigger the quickest collapse because its the main thing people survive on. If we loose our main resource, it will be the end of our civilization.
7 some solutions that Jared Diamond proposes to stem the food crisis is to grow organic foods.
8 The dangerous catalyst that made the other crises we have discussed spiral out of control is climate change because it effects everything connected to collapse.
    9. People don't take climate change seriously because it's not an immediate effect.
    10. 3 valuable lessons that can be learned from this documentary are :
    - save food
    -don't waste food
    - work more hard to save food and prevent collapse

  44. 1) I agree that there is a connection between the increase in the number of movies about natural disasters and the fact that people have finally started to think more carefully about climate change, because movies help realize the impact of climate change more visually. You can see what would happen in the future, so people are encouraged to prepare for climate change.
    2) The surprise that underlies the permafrost of Alaska is ancient carbon. This can help the current energy crisis by tipping the balance of the civilization.
    3) Climate change is costly from an economic standpoint because it's estimated to be trillions of dollars.
    4) Choices people make during years of prosperity lead to a bigger bust by taking huge financial risks.
    5) I agree that most people have a boom mentality than a boom and bust mentality, because people usually don't think outside the box or plan for the future.
    6) I think the financial crisis of 2008 was a sign of more bad things to come, because the government didn't help at all in the bad times. Many people lost their jobs and even their homes.
    7) Romes economic crisis and the economic crisis in 2008 are similar, because the people in power in both areas didn't pay attention to their people. They're different, because rome was more focused on the gladiator fights.
    8) The collapse of Rome was inevitable, because with the leader of Rome they were heading to a collapsed civilization. The Roman Empire was mainly focused on the gladiator fights, expanding, and about the wealthy people.
    9) I think our society will dissolve into the same violence and chaos that Rome did, because our society is very corrupt. We have great opportunities, but everyone is corrupt and does anything for money. Eventually, when the people realize they'll try to make change and there's going to be violence and chaos.
    10) Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are to never underestimate climate change, make the right choices that benefit you in the long run, and violence is never the answer.

  45. 1. Overgrazing and intensive agriculture has negatively impacted china because the soil was not no longer fertile; it took up 1/3 of china’s agriculture land. The top soil had become so weak and dry that the longer time took the larger the land opened into a vast desert.
    2. China is caught in a vice grip of competing choice by having to deal with both overgrowing population and expansions of their desert.
    3. Modern countries cheated nature by injecting chemicals into largely productive lands and they began pumping soil with artificial fertilizers and pesticides.
    4. Modernization leads to a crisis in the food production process because from all the chemicals put into the land to help crops grown was also destroying the top soil that the land needs to stay healthy.
    5. Energy, food, and water crisis’s are all the same because the agriculture land needs water and food is produced through the use of all three, so they’re all needed to sustain a healthy life.
    6. Food is the quickest triggers for collapse because if people don’t have food it will be a problem the next day, the shelves are bare, and food looks rotten, food has to be grown sustainably, it has to be a water supply to have a clear future.
    7. Jared diamond propose that we
    8. The dangerous catalyst was climate control.
    9. I think people don’t take climate change seriously because you wouldn’t think the world was created to be destructed by man .
    10. I learned that if you over use or over mess with something it won’t make I better but only worst. I also l also learned that dead plant life in the ocean can be cause from over carbon dioxide in the water.

  46. 1. The negative consequence of overgrazing and intensive agriculture is that a third of the farmland became infertile.
    2. China is caught in a vice grip of competing choices according to their growing population and the expansion of it's desserts.
    3. Modern countries have “cheated nature” since the 1950s by injecting chemicals into fertile land and by using fertilizers and pesticides in the soil.
    4. The modernization of food production can lead to a crisis in food production by us using to more water. When we use more water for producing food we are going low on water when people are already trying to get “blue gold”.
    5. A food and water crisis are connected. Because if there no water, we will have nothing to grow crops because we need water for food. Which will lead to collapse.
    6. Food is the quickest triggers because there is it not a lot of food on the plantation because other nations need some of those foods which means that the nation are going to go to a different country to feed their family and themselves.
    7. Jared Diamond's solutions to stem the food crisis are to purchase food that is locally produced, to grow organic food, farmers need to be weary of soil erosion, have a stable water supply, and be economically realistic.
    8. The dangerous catalyst that made the other crisis we have discussed spiral out of control is the change in climate.
    9. I believe that people do not highly regard changes in the climate because, they have the mentality that our nation is invincible, and they haven't truly experienced severe climate changes that can make our society fall.
    10. valuable lessons can be learned from this segment of the documentary is grow organic food, save topsoil and save food.

  47. 1.over grazing can cause a number of things to go wrong with your crops.
    2. china was caught in a vice grip of competing choices as a result of trying to maintain their expanding population even with there farmland minimizing.
3.Modern countries have cheated nature by injecting chemicals and artificial fertilizers into the land to make the soil more rich and fertile. The positive results were that this was working increasing the production of crops helping feed the whole nation.
4.modernization of food production can lead to a crisis because digging for food resulted in destroying to topsoil which contained many required nutrients to grow new plants.
5.food production, the energy crisis, and wanted crisis are all related because water and energy are required to grow food.
    6. food is a trigger for collapse because without food, civilians will be unable to survive And go on with expanding the civilization.
7.Some stem solutions stated by Jared Diamond include, growing food organically and sustainably. Also farmers must be aware of soil erosion and make sure they have a long lasting water supply.
    8. climate change is the dangerous catalyst that made other crises we have discussed spiral out of control.
    9. climate change isn't looked at much by people because people have never experienced by them.
    10. the lesson learned today is, be aware of water and food crisis always

  48. 1. Overgrazing and intensive agriculture impacted negatively impacted China by taking away one third of China's farming land.
    2. China already had problems on their hands like trying to produce enough for the population when they're overpopulated.
    3. Modern countries had used chemicals in the fertile land and using fertilizer on the soil. Positive results were that it helped produce more food for the overpopulated country.
    4. Since modern countries are using chemicals on the land, it can make the crops that they dig up less healthier. Plus the nutrients are all found in topsoil which we are digging up to find food. Without the nutrients, the food supply would start to become limited due to the decrease in growth of food.
    5. Problems in all three connect to each other because the three rely on each other. When there's problems with water supply, it can affect if the crops will grow that gives us the food. Then if the energy goes out, how will the food get to where it needs to go.
    6. The exporting of food to the third world nations will cause farmlands to become extinct.
    7. Some solutions is to grow organically and to buy food that are locally produced.
    8. The climate change is the dangerous catalyst.
    9. Us Americans think it's always avoidable so we don't focus on the serious problems but there will be a day that we can't bounce back because there was no plan.
    10. Focus on serious problems, Be prepared, start listening to Jared Diamond.

  49. 1. The negative consequence of overgrazing and intensive agriculture is that a third of the farmland became infertile.
2.china was trying to get the population all the food they could produce.

3- Modern countries have “cheated nature” since the 1950s by injecting chemicals into marginally productive lands. They began pumping the soil with artificial fertilizers and pesticides. The positive results were that crop yields had increased five fold, feeding a growing world population.
    4. Modernizing food production can also entail a food crisis because, while in the process of digging for food, topsoil is being dispersed; major nutrients to help plants develop are in topsoil, and without those nutrients our food will not sprout, transitioning into a crisis.

    5. Problems like food production, the energy crisis and the water crisis are all connected to each other because in order to produce food you need water and in order to produce the food and water you need energy.
    6. Food is one of the quickest triggers for collapse because people start rioting is they don’t get food. Jared Diamond said that when he was in Chilly and they were having a food crisis people were rioting.

7:Jared Diamond's solution was to grow organic food, have a stable water supply water and food has to be sustain-ably grown.

8.The dangerous catalyst that made the other crises we have discussed spiral out of control by having climate change and global warming.
    9) I think people take what they have for granted until there isn't any left
10.the lessons we can learn is we ahould pay more attention to what is happening to the climate changes

  50. 1) ovegrazing & intensive agriculture is that it has been destroying chinas farmland
2)growing population & expansion of deserts
    3) modern countries have cheated nature by injecting chemicals into largely productive lands
    4) modernization of food product can lead to top soil being blown away
    5) food production, energy crisis and water crisis are connected because if they continue they can all end a civilization
    6) food is the biggest trigger in a collapse because it extremely effects a big population that keeps growing
    7) Jared diamond suggest that we grow me organic food
    8) It controlled climate and weather change
    9) Americans take advantage of what they have and dont think of long term effects from what they do
    10) the lesson we should learn is to pay close attention to little things that change in the environment

  52. negatively impact china by has eating away of one third of the country farmland.

    - Purchase merchandise in moderation.
    - Be weary of not only the good that can result from agriculture, but also the bad.
    - Reduce the use of greenhouse gases, and think about how they are shaping the environment.
