1) it's comparing how both empires were similar by the way they acted and how they were both on the verge of collapse
ReplyDelete2) no because with all the tecnology that we have i don't know how they wouldn't detect any problems
3)we are only inventing things for now we haven't started to invent things for the future that can help us defend ourselves or support life forms on Earth
4) it is a trademark for empires that collapses
5) they turned into a hang of thieves and loot areas they captured and used the wealth the inherited to keep expanding
6) Rome was a very large civilization
7) we can reduce the amount of energy we use
8) the sun
9) hat the roman looted the other civilization
10) collapse can happen very quickly
1. The documentary compares the roman empire and the Mayan civilization because of the way played of life and death, and they were one the biggest civilizations that collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. I think our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us because we use so much oil from the ground that we forget that we only have a limited supply. Also the same with water and gas.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because we are so use to one item that powers our means of transportation and technology, That one item will eventually run out.
4. the abandoned power plant a metaphor for a modern civilization today because once we are done we move, for example when we run out of water we move on to another place.
5. Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse because they would slave to build, and when they could find strong slaves to build they couldn't them selves.
6. the world’s energy crisis like Rome’s energy crisis because were too big like Rome.
7. According to Jared Diamond to solve our energy crisis is to use alternative energy source.
8. nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner because were not yet equipped to do so.
9. Information I learned from this segment surprised the most was the way Rome collapsed. This surprised me because Rome started off so small and rapidly got bigger, but they just collapsed from weak slaves. information surprised me the least was how the Romans battled to the death because I already knew that.
10. valuable lessons can be learned from this segment of the documentary is to use alternative energy sources.
1.both empires wher both similar and they both had a collapse.
ReplyDelete2.no i dont because we have things that were invented and we could know the danger that is coming after us.we use technology to find out.
3.we are inventing technology and transportation that are new to support our protection.
4.Its a place to tell where a callaspse happen.
5.the roman process of gathering things by looting areas.they did this to keep them going for expansion
6.roman had a larger civilization.
7.one is developing our energy sources and another is engineering our cities.
8.the sun is the nature oldest and most powerful energy source.
9.the part of the video that surprised me was when the roman were fighting/having a war.
10.one is that we should have more inventing technologies.
And another is we should keep our engineering going on.
And one more we should do is keep our civilization under control so an collapse cannot happen.
1. The reason the documentary compares the Roam empire to the Mayan empire is to show how both of the civilizations fell from lack of resources
ReplyDelete2. Yes I think our civilization is being consumed by our spoils three being lack of oil, water, and lack of natural resources
3. The rapid growth of transportation is going to lead to collapse because, we are consistently use oil for transportation we will run out of oil. We struggle hard to get the crude oil needed.
4. The reason why it is a metaphor for our civilizations collapse is because we've have been consistently using so much oil that it eventually led to the point where people abandon the power plant
5. Rome's appetite led to their collapse because they had used up all their natural resources to support their empire and it had became more expensive to expand which led to their collapse
6. Their population had expanded and it became harder for the empire to support the rapid growth of the civilization
7. According to Jared Diamonds theory the civilization today should alternate to new resources around the world
8. The oldest power source to any civilization is man power, peasants they had led to the structures of civilization today
9. What had surprised me the most is how much Rome actually expanded there little nation in to a great and powerful empire it was before it had collapsed.
10. No civilization should depend on one recourse it could be the collapse of you're civilization.
~ Cyris Rodriguez ~
1.The Roman Empire and the Mayan civilization are just alike by their success even though they were separated by the ocean.
ReplyDelete2.The danger right in front of us is:
1) crossing across the street with out looking/ crossing across the street and you walk across after you looked and a car hits you cause they wanna be so fast with their cars
2)getting inside of a car with some strangers and they do something to you
3)kids bullying another kid cause of the size, weight, the way they look,or where they come from
3.The rapid growth our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because transportation was traveling 45 mph up until 1000 mph.
4.The abandoned power plant means that yeah we power that's today in the 21st century let's have power in the 22nd century for our future.
5.The romans appetite for expansion was honorable cause they will go to people's homes and take some of their things away from them.
6.The worlds energy crisis is amazing unlike Rome's energy crisis. Rome energy crisis is slow because they was increasing their expansion of their empire.
7.According to Jared Diamond to back down the amount of energy that we use everyday.
8.The nature's oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. Because the sun brings delight energy to the world.
9.The way the civilization fight another civilization over food no water but isn't that called trade. Like I give you money you give me money back isn't that called trade.
10.1) we can keep inventing technology and different products
2) trade goods for food and water
3) see the way the climate change and the economy change at the same time
1: It compares Roman empire and the Mayan empire as similar because both civilizations collapsed.
ReplyDelete2: Yes i think that we are consumed because we use unnecessary oil that the thought of it running it out slips our minds.
3: When there are many more resources to use but we only choose to to use one of them until it eventually runs out, that's why our technology and transportation increase rapidly.
4: The abandoned power plant metaphor connects in the way that when we move to a civilization or build a civilization we expand it and make it bigger then when the bad times comes we just leave it.
5: They were some sort of gang thieves they also found slaves to work for them because they didn't want to.
6: The world today and Rome are very similar in the way that our civilizations are way over populated and too big.
7: It takes a reduce in energy that is being used.
8: The oldest power energy source is the sun, they didn't make the attempts to harness because they couldn't afford to do so.
9: The information that surprised me the most was how Rome rapidly increased and collapsed,Rome was a great civilization. What surprised me the least was that Rome had a strong military.
10: The lesson that can be learnt is to always plan ahead of time and also put to use alternate energy resources.

ReplyDelete1. Why does the documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization?
ReplyDeleteThe documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were two big civilizations that both collapsed because they were consumed with their own success.
2. Do you think our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us? Take a position and defend your position using 3 reasons supported with specific evidence.
I think that our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us. We think that we have an unlimited supply of resources such as water, gas, and oil. When there was a gas shortage a few years ago, everyone was going crazy, lines at the gas station were ridiculous. We don’t know how to make do with what we have.
3. How has the rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse? Explain in detail using cause and effect.
The rapid growth of our transportation and technology has increased the likelihood of a collapse because we have gone from 40mph to 1000’s of mph. Technology is moving too fast for us to keep up with it, we are becoming too advanced, and we are using too much fossil fuels.
4. How is the abandoned power plant a metaphor for a modern civilization today? Identify and explain the connections.
The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because it was an oil fired power plant that was state of the art and wasted 75% of the energy of oil; we are a society living within the ruins of our own construction.
5. How did Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse? Explain using cause and effect.
Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse because Rome appeared to be an unstoppable force. The empire was wealthy with great structures and buildings but they wanted to grow too fast through peasant labor and fertile land. They ran out of labor and land to fuel their growth and they faced an energy crisis.
6. How is the world’s energy crisis like Rome’s energy crisis? Explain using compare and contrast.
The worlds’ energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis because oil is getting harder and more expensive to find. Wilderness is being scraped to get to oil which needs energy and water to do so. Oil reserves are running out.
7. According to Jared Diamond, what does it take to solve our energy crisis?
According to Jared Diamond, it would take developing alternative energy sources and reengineering our cities to solve our energy crisis. Cities are too congested and we need rapid transit systems.
8. What is nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source? Why do you think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner? Explain.
Nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the son. I think that modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner is because they didn’t think to and didn’t have the resources to do so.
9. What information you learned from this segment surprised you the most? What information surprised you the least? Explain
I was surprised that The Romans took people as slaves. Cities being too congested did not surprise me.Traffic in New York is horrible. There are too many vehicles and not enough people use public transportion.
10. What valuable lessons can be learned from this segment of the documentary? Provide at least 3 and make sure they are different lessons than you mentioned in previous homeworks.
Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment are: Expansion cannot go on forever. It is not always profitable to continue conquering. Alternative energy sources should be used when possible
1) The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization, because these two civilizations both were so consumed by their success.
ReplyDelete2) I think our civilization is not consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us, because we have advanced technology where we can find out what can happen before it does. For example, we can find out when a tornado occurs. We can find out when a hurricane can occur, and lastly when a earthquake can occur.
3) The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increases the likelihood of a collapse by, focusing on things that aren't that necessary for the society.
4) The Abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today, because the pace of change is the fastest now.
5) Rome's appetite for expansion ultimately led to its collapse, because of an energy crisis.
6) The worlds energy crisis and rome's energy crisis are the same, because they both want to keep going and don't wanna think about the future. They are mainly focused on growing. The worlds energy crisis and rome's energy crisis are different, because the worlds energy crisis was a lot more modern than Rome.
7) According to Jared Diamond, to solve our energy crisis is developing alternative energy sources and re-engineering our cities.
8) Natures oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. I think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner, because they thought they could've used other reliable energy sources but they failed.
9) From this segment, what surprised me the most was that the Roman Empire went through a energy crisis, because that's the last thing I thought Rome would go through. What surprised me the least was that the sun is the oldest and most powerful energy source, because everyone knows that fact.
10) Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is, that the collapse of a civilization can happen in many ways. It can happen from the lack of energy source. Another lesson that can be learned from this segment is, that conquering so many areas will not last that long.

1) the documentary of the Mayan Empire and the Roman Empire is Similar because they were both large cites , had major problems and collapsed.
ReplyDelete2) No, I do not think our civilization is so consumed with the spoil system of our success because , I think we are always prepare for the future. I think as a nation we wouldn't have such a downfall because a couple of years ago when we had a recession we was able to bring our economy back up . The rate of employment was the low , prices raised on production and gas prices went up , with all of that , we are still together as a nation and has yet to collapse.
3) Rapid growth of of our transportation and technology can increase in a collapse because it causes over population & when the country is over populated there's not enough resources for the people. We use transportation daily if we didn't have transportation we wouldn't have a clean society , garbage would just be sitting around on land scape, could cause air pollution, etc etc .
4) The abandoned of power plants is a metaphor for today civilization because we tend to abandoned the power we have ..
5) The Rome appetite for expansion lead to its collapse because they wasted all their natural resources that was to support the empire and when it was time to expand the empire all the productions became expensive and they didn't have money to expand their empire this lead to a collapse in Rome .
6) The world energy crisis and Rome energy crisis is a like because we are both big civilizations and a fast increase in population growth .
7) According to Jared Diamonds Theory he believes that to solve our energy crisis , we need to come up with new natural resources to prevent future resources issues .
8) Natures oldest and most powerful resource is is the sun . Because the sun gives us everything we need , it helps us produce crops , gives us the daylight and energy me need etc.
9) What didn't surprise me the most is that it that when The Rome empire collapsed because all their main resources was running out and they didn't have enough to expand their civilization . so it put them in jeopardy of collapsing . what surprised me was that rome started out so little and because of their expansion they collapsed after being a strong civilized country .
10) Valuable lesson that can be learned is that we should take more advantage of our resources, always prepare for the future and if we have plans to expand the civilization make sure we have the resources we need .
1- Both empires are similar to each other because they both showed how they where boarder line of collapsing
ReplyDelete2- No i don't think so because we can make plans quickly and rapidly no matter how victorious we are we can always have a plan to solve any problems thats come our way.
3- Our advance being can cause a collapse because we can get invaded by hostile neighbors that will take everything we have.
4- it shows the failure and the collapsing of a society
5- Rome had collapsed because they where expanding and other people started to invade.
6- the worlds energy crisis is similar to rome because rome was expanding and it was just like the wold a very large empire that was growing
7- According to jared diamond he states that we should reduce on the energy that we use
8-Natures oldest and most powerful source was the sun
9- what suprised me the most is no matter how powerful you think you are all it takes is one little accident to happen and you whole empire can fall.
10-One thin i learned from this is always plan for bad things to happen dont wait for it to happen because you dont know what it can be the best thing to do is plan for failure
1.It emulates how both empires were very similar by the way they both acted & how they were both on the verge of collapsing.
ReplyDelete2. No, because with all the tecnology that we have I don't understand how they wouldn't detect any problems then.
3.We are inventing new technology and transportation that are to support our protection & well being.
4.The uninhabited power plant a metaphor for a modern day civilization for today because once we are done we move, for example when we run into having a drought we move on to another place.
5.The romans hunger for expansion was ethical cause they will go to people's homes and take some of their things away from them.
6.Their population had expanded & so it became even harder for the empire to support the rapid growth of the civilization.
7.According to Jared Diamonds theory the civilization today should interchange to new resources all around the world.
8.The nature's oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun, because the sun brings delight charm energy to the world.
9.What surprised me the most was how much Rome actually expanded there little nation in to a great and powerful empire it was before it collapsed.
10. No civilization should actually be depending on just one resource it could cause the collapse of you're civilization.

ReplyDelete1. The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they both had the same ending to their empire.
ReplyDelete2. I do not think our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us. I think that way because we can always recover things. For example when hurricane sandy hit us we recovered quickly unlike other countries that sometimes take too long to recover from natural disasters. Also, even if we do run out of oil we already have been using different sources like electricity, today we have cars that run on electricity and not gas like Tesla. Another reason I think that way is because a few years back U.S. was going down due to a high unemployment rate and we recovered from that and came back stronger as a country.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because most of our technology and transportation require oil/gas. What that is causing is us trying to find oil in all parts of the world. The effect of that is that we are running low on oil and sooner or later there will be none or very less oil left.
4. The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because the power plant used to take up a lot of most of the oil since we thought that oil was a unlimited resource. When we found out that it was a limited resource we stopped using the power plants. That means that today we might be taking a lot of resources for granted thinking that they are a unlimited source until we find out it is limited.
5. Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse because the money they made they put into expanding Rome. The cause was them putting in money to expand the Roman Empire and the effect was them taking slaves and not having enough money to feed their Empire.
6. The world’s energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis because we are big like Roman Empire too and we need resources just like they did. The difference is that they needed labor and we need oil.
7. According to Jared Diamond, what it takes to solve our energy crisis is to stop using it and to wait for more to come or we find an alternative energy source to take place of our main energy source.
8. Nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. I think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner because either they didn’t know how to turn it into energy and use it as an advantage or they didn’t care because they were already using oil.
9. The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most was that countries thought oil was a limited source and was using a lot of it. The information that surprised me the least was how the Roman Empire collapsed.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are that you should always research your energy source to see if its limited or not, see if that energy source would harm you if you had no more or ran out and to have an alternative energy source that you know you can use as a back up.

1. the documentary compares the Roman empire and the mayan civilization because the many things it has in common
ReplyDelete2. i do think that our civilization is consumed with our spoils of our success because people think that noting bad will happen or that we will never run out of resources and we have a lot to live on
3. the rapid growth of transportation and technology can lead to collapse because with transportation we will eventually run out of the resources we need to keep going and with technology we are using it to build unnecessary things

1 it compares the roman empire with the Mayan civilization cause they consumed their successes & how they collapsed.
ReplyDelete2 I don't think that our civilization is consumed with the spoils of our success cause thas why we have technology. To help us detect problems heading to our country. Also cause most people respond to disasters more quickly than others son that we can get a headstart on surviving. Last, we can plan ahead of time for the good times and bad times to make sure web are OK.
3 rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse cause we begin overusing what we have then raising bills then to people becoming homeless then dying of starvation or dhydrastion leading to no more people.
4 the abandoned power plant is a metaphor for modern civilization cause it show how we will change & how things are changing.
5 Rome's appetite for expansion led to its collapse cause we spent a lot of money & was red it on things that wasn't very important , so then we didn't have money to buy what we needed in the future.
6 the worlds energy crisis is like Rome's energy crisis cause our increase in population was high.
7 according to Jared diamond, it takes us saving energy & not wasting all the resources.
8 nature's oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. Modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner cause they probably thought it wasnt needed for them till they found out it was useful.
9 what surprised me most was when the roman empire went through an energy crisis. I thought they had known what to do to avoid that being a problem. What didn't surprise me is when they collapsed. If they were more conservative of their resources, they probably could of lasted.
10 some valuable lessons that can be learned from this is conserve what you need most for future purposes, energy is important to so save that, and before you expand, have a lot of resources.
1. The documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were both powerful and smart civilizations that collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. Our civilization is not so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us. I believe this because if we did not see the dangers right in front of us how would know about the serious damage being cause to the earth such as deforestation, global warming and forest degradation.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because we are so use to one resource that powers our way of transportation and technology, That resource will eventually be depleted.
4. the abandoned power plant a metaphor for a modern civilization today because once we are done we move, for example when we run out of water we move on to another place.
5. Rome's appetite led to their collapse because they had used up all their natural resources to support their empire and it had became more expensive to expand and this would lead to their collapse.
6. Rome had a very large civilization as does the world. So the more people meaning energy being used.
7. According to Jared Diamond to solve our energy crisis is to use alternative energy source.
8. nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner because weren't able to because they did not have the technology.
9. Nothing surprised Me.
10. valuable lessons can be learned from this segment of the documentary are we can keep inventing technology and different products and conserve.

ReplyDelete1. both civilizations were similar because they fell from a lack of resources so they did not really have what they needed to survive.
ReplyDelete2.i would say yes because if transportation increases then more gas and oil will be used for transportation and eventually we will run out of both .
3. i would say that too many of the things we need for other things besides transportation are being used for mainly transportation and eventually we are going to run out of it .
4. this is a metaphor for modern civilization because its basically saying that if we keep using up much of the things we have then we are going to just move on.
5.their appetite lead to their collapse because they used all the natural resources they had and they ended up with none in the end so expanding became very expensive.
6. Rome had a larger civilization but we are similar because of over population.
7. reducing the energy that we use.
8.i think the oldest and powerful source is the sun people did not attempt to harness because of lack in resources.
9. something that surprised me was that Rome expanded from being so small to something very big. something that least surprised me was that Rome military was very good .
10.expansion has limits, try to use more alternative sources, and use resources wisely and do not waste it.

1. This documentary compares them because they both collapse and they also compared them with their games that ended with death.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, we take advantage of our resources. We have so much we feel free to waste them. We have a limited amount of water we enjoy wasting it but we just don't realize how much we need it until it's too late.
3. We are likely to collapse because every time our technology advances we leave it and think of it as junk.
4. The power plant is a metaphor because once we had no use for it we abandoned it and we believe that if we do it with things like that we can do the same with a lot more.
5. Rome had so much land they kept taking but couldn't take care of it.
6. Rome and the worlds energy crisis are similar because for Rome it was tough to take over and take care and the world keeps taking resources and it's easy for us to just take what we find but its getting harder to find it not only that but it's also expensive.
7. We need to find other resources and we need to base our countries on other resources that aren't fossil fuels.
8.the sun, maybe it can only be taken during the day and mostly at its highest point. Maybe it wasn't harnessed before because people found fossil fuels and it was easier to burn then to wait they got what they wanted faster.
9. We are running out of oil and it's believed that there will only be a couple of decades till we run out and a couple of decades might still me in my life time so there will be a lot of change when we do run out and by the time my generation's offspring come to be the world as we know it might be a lot different even more then we thought.
10. We need to find alternative resources now before it's too late, the old sayings value what we have definitely doesn't only apply to people the world as we know it will change in our life time. We shouldn't get comfortable with the limited resources we have and this seems to be more then the collapse of our country but collapse in general the world. Things aren't meant to be easy and that's all we've been trying to do make things easy there's always something bad that comes out of something good. We weren't meant to have it easy we were meant to work hard and think but we are use to the idea of getting everything handed to us but we don't see the damage that easy gets us. People who lived hundreds of years ago would be disappointed with what we've done to the world and those who wouldn't be disappointed are exactly the ones that got us here where we are now. Everything is limited just like the world just like us we won't stand forever although we like to see it that way the world won't last forever but we should still change.
1) Both civilizations were consumed with their own success and failed to realize their civilization was collapsing.
ReplyDelete2) Our civilization is to consumed with our spoils of success. we focus on other little things that probably wont help us out in the future. and we continuously waste resources.
3) Transportation has made resources low and more expensive.
4) The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because we tend to use resources and build things and then don't use it again or simply destroy it.
5) Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse. They appeared to have an unstoppable force and have slaves do their work,
6) The world’s energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis because like Rome we have trouble finding resources and oil is starting or in the midst of being to expensive and hard to find.
7) According to Jared Diamond developing alternative energy sources and reengineering our cities are the best ways to solve our energy crisis.
8) The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. I think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner is because we cant afford it or they haven't thought of a smart and safe way too.
9) The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most was why both civilizations collapsed. The information surprised me the least was that we are in an energy crisis like Rome and we still haven't found a way to solve it.
10) As a country we need to conserve and make a back up plan. I think we should use Jared Diamonds idea and develop alternative resources. I l also think we should stop consuming our own spoils of success and start working on ways to revive our civilization if anything happens.
1. They were both well excessive cities. They shared one thing in common that their hope was consumed by their own success. They were both blinded by the fact that their years of domination would soon end. They were on the verge of a collapse and didn’t have a clue.
ReplyDelete2. Yes. I think this because we are a very unappreciative and ungrateful; we always tend to prepare ourselves for tomorrow but not for the future. We went from going 45 mph to going 1, 00 mph. While in other countries like Africa they are still using beasts of burden as their ways of transportation. And since we are so dependent on our phone for things business will still start to wipe out. What’s the point of going to a supermarket on a busy day to get dinner for my family when I can just order some Chinese food and have the delivery bring it over. During the holidays there’s always those good deals you may not want to miss out on , but who wants to wait 5 hours on line to get a couple of clothing pieces or video games when you can easily order it online and pay a little extra for the shipping. Business will soon wipe out leaving many employees unemployed, out of all these people who are unemployed about majority will file for unemployment, the government isn’t going to give these people a substantial amount of money to survive until they get back on their feet, the money may be able to get them a week’s full of groceries and their phone bill payed. What about living costs? If you were working a regular 9-5 job and you’re now unemployed what’s you’re living situation going to be like? Now you have to go file for public housing to live, what about if you have kids? How are they going to eat breakfast, lunch, dinner etc.? How are you going to tell your kids that you don’t have enough money to put food on the table? Now you’re going to file for public assistance. The point is that yes in the U.S we make a lot of money, but do ever realize how fast we spend it?
3. –The population keeps increasing overtime, & we are going too fast.
4. The abandoned power plants are not going to be around forever. They were from millions of years ago. We should look into new ways of getting our solar energy. We are too dependent on these power plants.
5. It leads to their collapse because they were greedy and they wanted to expand their civilization more than they could.
6. The worlds energy crisis was similar to Rome because we had a desire to be wealthy which we were, however in Rome their weakness for the expansion for growing their civilization led them making their people be slaves to do cheap labor, but when they realized how expensive it would be to control, the Romans thought their expansion would last forever. They ran out of easy territory to conquer. Eventually their fuel system started dwindling, resulting in their energy crisis. So just like the Romans we didn’t stop and think that our resources would be coming to an end.
7. What it takes to solve our energy crisis is by developing alternative energy sources and also reengineering our cities.
8. Gas. I’m not sure
9. What surprised me is that we have all these issues going on about the solar energy and soon we are going to have a shortage of oil and the government or president is letting us know that we have these issues going on. They should probably watch this video to see if they can help us live for another couple decades.
10. Don’t bite off more than you can chew meaning that if you know you can’t if your know you are not able to do something, don’t even try to attempt, and not to take everything for granted just like the romans they were so busy trying to run a successful empire that that they take a step to look back and see if they had any problems that may occur to prevent them from a collapse.

1. the documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because our citizens, sending our men to the moon they would be happy.
ReplyDelete2. the way they could relize the damage we was doing many people wouldnt have to think about putting garbage on the floor.
3. they have alot of different bird big ones and little ones. they didn't have that much food support. the only way they could get water Is from the water waste, thats the only way they got water.
4 the abandoned power plant a metaphor for a modern civilization today because many thinks such as items were very cheap.
5. Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse mean people's thought they was successful.
6.many of the people who was trying to get in didn't have that much energy to try and get they had to be it up real good.
7.many of them was not able to ferterize and people couldn't grow they're crops.
8 menu of them are getting harder and very expensive to find. people don't wanna look for them.
9. they was not able to grow there crops anymore beacause there was many drouts, people was not able to get any food.
10. i learned that any people was not able to eat cause they didnt have an sourse of water to get any thing to drink or eat.
1. The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan civilization because they went through the same situation, they were so consumed with their current success that they did not see the collapse of their own societies coming and didn’t know what to do.
ReplyDelete2. I think our civilization is consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers because we are too distracted by the current technology, we think that since we are so concentrated on using the resources to benefit ourselves we don’t pay attention to the dangers that are coming because of the lack of consideration, and we let our success go to our heads and think that we are indestructible.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation increased the likelihood of the collapse because almost every object used for transportation runs on fuel or gas, and there are many cars, buses, airplanes, etc. and the more oil used the less we have.
4. The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because once something is no longer useful to us we abandon it and move on to something useful again.
5. Rome’s appetite for expansion eventually led to its collapse because they became so successful taking resources and the people of other areas they became blinded by that didn’t realize the end of their civilization.
6. The worlds energy crisis is likes Rome’s energy crisis because their population is over grew like ours is.
7. According to Jared Diamond what it takes to solve our energy crisis is to reduce the amount of energy and power being used every day.
8. Nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun, but modernized countries did not obtain this power sooner because they were caught up with fuel and oil.
9. The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most is that Rome collapsed because of something (in the society’s eyes) was good for them.
10. Three valuable reasons that can be learned from this segment are
– Plan ahead time
–Always pay attention to the cause and effect of your actions
–Always have a backup resource
1. The Roman Empire and the Mayan Empire were both so infatuated with their success they failed to acknowledge that their prosperity would soon come to a conclusion.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, I believe our society is blind to danger and infatuated with its success because:
a. Nonrenewable resources such as oil are being carelessly used.
b. The economy is on the verge of, even in the middle of collapsing and some people are not even aware of it.
c. Social media is relied on as a source of information, and necessarily deemed a distraction. However, sometimes not everything about real world problems can be found on social media.
3. The risk of societal collapse is caused by transportation and technological advancements, which require the Earth's fossil fuels, which are a limited resource.
4. The similarity that the abandoned power plant and today's civilization share are that people continually move forward in both regards. As one state-of-the-art invention or infrastructure is made, it is abandoned in eventuality only to be replaced by a new and improved creation.
5. Rome's desire for growth destroyed it in the end because they put all of their riches into their pursuit of expansion, and at a certain point it became impractical to continue expanding and gain profit from conquering. They had little wealth available to be used to help their empire, which made the Romans resort to using cheap labor and fertile land to keep their civilization alive.
6. Rome's energy crisis is similar to our energy crisis since we both have dwindling limited resources. However, unlike the Romans we did not lose our energy due to hunger for expansion, but because of the greed of improving upon technology, the hunger for moving forward.
7. Jared Diamond believes that the energy crisis can be solved by revamping the system of transportation and developing substitute sources of energy.
8. The most ancient and strong energy source is the sun. People did not think to use the sun because oil seemed to be everlasting and was getting its job done.
9. The information in this video that was the most shocking was people wasting the precious oil they had. Oil is crucial in our nation because it keeps technology and transportation functional. I was least surprised by the use of the sun as an energy source because it is a very smart move, due to its infinite amount of energy the sun proves to be a good substitute for oil.
10. Some messages that can be taken from this video are:
a. To conserve limited resources; use them in moderation and tone down the pace of technological growth.
b. Do not rely on one source of energy to sustain the lives of an entire civilization.
c. Success should not distract a civilization from maintaining balance in their society and preventing collapse.
1.Both roman and mayan empire are similar because both empires showed how they where very close to collapsing.
ReplyDelete2. no because we can quickly make plans no matter how sucussful we are we can have a plan to solve problems that comes our way
3.It increased the likelihood of a collapse because we can get invaded by hostile neighbors who would take everything we have.
4. Because it shows the failure and collapsing of a society.
5. The reason that rome had collapsed because while they where expanding people started to invade.
6. Its like romes because rome was expanding and it was a large empire that was growing.
7.Jared diamond states that we should reduce on the energy we use.
8. the olds most powerful source was the sun
9. the thing that surprised me the most is that how ever powerful you think that you are it takes one small accident to happen and your whole empire is fallin.
10. one thing that I learned from was always plan for bad things to happen because you wont know when something is about to happen.
Paul.Harnarain
1. The reason the documentary compares the Roam empire to the Mayan empire is to show how both of the civilizations fell from lack of resources 2. Yes I think our civilization is being consumed by our spoils three being lack of oil, water, and lack of natural resources 3. The rapid growth of transportation is going to lead to collapse because, we are consistently use oil for transportation we will run out of oil. We struggle hard to get the crude oil needed. 4. The reason why it is a metaphor for our civilizations collapse is because we've have been consistently using so much oil that it eventually led to the point where people abandon the power plant 5. Rome's appetite led to their collapse because they had used up all their natural resources to support their empire and it had became more expensive to expand which led to their collapse 6. Their population had expanded and it became harder for the empire to support the rapid growth of the civilization 7. According to Jared Diamonds theory the civilization today should alternate to new resources around the world 8. The oldest power source to any civilization is man power, peasants they had led to the structures of civilization today 9. What had surprised me the most is how much Rome actually expanded there little nation in to a great and powerful empire it was before it had collapsed. 10. No civilization should depend on one recourse it could be the collapse of you're civilization. - Lea Thompson
ReplyDelete1- The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were both consumed by their own success making them unaware that after centuries of domination their time was up; leading them to a major collapse/downfall.
ReplyDelete2- I think that our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us because we tend to take too much advantage of our fuel, water and energy supply that causes the risk of a global collapse; due to not using a limited amount from time to time.
3- The rapid growth of our transportation and technology has increased the likelihood of a collapse by using to much energy supply that they will both need in order for it to be powered, making it go to waste.
4- The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because we have been taking too much advantage of the oil supply wasting it on no good; making us live in the ruins of our own construction.
5- Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse due to their lack of fuel supply that led them to an energy crisis. Rome wanted to thrive through peasant labor and fertile land but even though they were a civilization that seemed to be unstoppable, they reached a point where they were no longer profitable to conquer.
6- The world’s energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis because as the population growth keeps increasing, it gets more harder to support the civilization with the different supplies needed in order to overcome a collapse.
7- According to Jared Diamond, it would take a reduction in energy supply that is being used and a re-engineering to our cities in order to solve our energy crisis.
8- The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. I think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner because they were not prepared to do such thing yet, knowing that the sun helps give them practically everything they need.
9- The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most was how Rome, starting off as a small nation quickly increased/rised overtime but then all of a sudden collapsed due to lack of main resources. The information that surprised me the least was how the Romans can afford the kind of military force they have.
10- 3 valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are:
~ save energy supply for good purposes in life
~ plan ahead of time, just in-case any failure happens to occur
~ and keep a limited amount of population that way no collapse takes place later on in the future.
~ Jocelyne Morales
1. The two empires were a play on life and death or how they were similar and there collapse Note: Collapse isn't one reason
ReplyDelete2. Were not just consumed we are the spoils of our success look at what we have accomplished. That btw is not a compliment. Example 1: The pollution in china but we do outsource cheap labor so who cares. Example 2: The ice caps in antarctica and how global warming has actually kicked up. Example 3: The drought in california could of been a worldwide domino effect and could of ended worse than it started.
3. When a civilization grows it has a period of massive spread and evolution. However; some civilizations like the Anasazi in the valley built more and produced more than what they actually had. They didn't have the materials to hold down the fort and there own Land. For example; I grow a tree, and it goes super well, then I decide to plant 20 trees and I have to take care of all of them, my first tree was plentiful and enough to sustain but I didn't plan ahead and this could lead to food and resources being wasted.
4. The power plant analogy is how a power plant was a super powered and bustling source of power and something to marvel but eventually you know what happens. It's abandoned and left behind standing there as a remain of the past and what was.
5. Rome was a powerful empire with great wealth and fertile land, with work of mostly slave labor and a lot of land to look over. They were someone to challenge and with problems of political and social how would this not fall. It's like a giant losing it's footing.
6. Oil is getting more and more harder to find. It's also a pollutant but that's a sidenote. To get to oil you need energy and oil reservoirs are running out, not lasting forever.
7. According to Jared Diamond Rapid transport, clean energy, non congested cities would greatly reduce the chance of a modern collapse
8. Natures strongest energy source is the sun and previous attempts to harness probably weren't thought of. It's so simple yet never tried, also the materials needed to obtain sun energy is not the simplest. Things found in nature adapted in technological ways usually are successful.
9. Nothing surprised me ofcourse huge cities are congested, and of course rome had slaves, a empire that huge needs some man power. Running out of that man power was also a reason for their collapse. Rome was such a great civlization though, it's brutal and internalized collapse was kind of expected from such a strong civilization.
10.Lessons learned, learn from past civilizations, look for clean energy and ways to decongest the city.

Delete1- The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were both collapsing.
ReplyDelete2- Our civilization is not consumed with the spoils of our success because no matter what happens, they will have a back up plan for the future.
3- The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because it will pollute the air and waste our resources.
4- The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because we took it for granted that now its abandoned.
5- Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse because they wanted to have it all. They wanted to expand Rome and aquire so goods taking them for grnated.
6- The world’s energy crisis like Rome’s energy crisis because of the large population. The difference is that we need different resources than they do.
7- To solve our energy crisis, we should cut down on how much we use and re-engineer our cities.
8- Nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun.
9- I learned from this segment that you cant take stuff for granted because once somethings gone you will and can collapse.
10- A valuable lesson that could be learned is dont take stuff for granted and plan for the future.
~ Alexandra Parks
Delete1)The documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were both powerful and smart civilizations that collapsed.
ReplyDelete2) I believe because of how into we are with our advanced technology that we are vulnerable to be consumed with the spoils of our success because we ofter over look the the bad we do in order for these technological things to be upon us.
3)The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because most of our technology and transportation require oil/gas. What that is causing is us trying to find oil in all parts of the world. The effect of that is that we are running low on oil and sooner or later there will be none or very less oil left.
4)the abandoned power plant is a metaphor for modern civilization cause it show how we will change & how things are changing.
5)Rome's appetite led to their collapse because they had used up all their natural resources to support their empire and it had became more expensive to expand which led to their collapse
6)Rome's energy crisis is similar to our energy crisis since we both have dwindling limited resources. However, unlike the Romans we did not lose our energy due to hunger for expansion, but because of the greed of improving upon technology, the hunger for moving forward.

8)The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. I think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner is because we cant afford it or they haven't thought of a smart and safe way too.
9)The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most was that countries thought oil was a limited source and was using a lot of it. The information that surprised me the least was how the Roman Empire collapsed.
10)Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment are: Expansion cannot go on forever. It is not always profitable to continue conquering. Alternative energy sources should be used when possible.

1. The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were both large cites, had major problems and collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. No, I do not think our civilization is so consumed with the spoil system of our success because, I think we are always prepare for the future.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because most of our technology and transportation require oil/gas.
4. The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because it shows the failure and collapsing of a society.
5. It leads to their collapse because they wanted to expand their civilization more than they could.

8. The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun.
9. The way the civilization fight another civilization is over food and also no water.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is, that the collapse of a civilization can happen in many ways. It can happen from decrease in energy source. Another lesson that can be learned from this segment is, that taking over so many areas will only last a little bit of time.
ReplyDelete1.)They compare because they both collapse.
2.)yes I think our civilization will be consumed because our water and resources ..
3.)because we need oil and gas without it everything will collapse.
4.)shows the failure and the collapsing of a society..
5.)how it lead to a collapse is the money they made they put into expanding roman..
6.)they are similar because we need resources just like they did.
7.)according to Jared diamond it would take energy supple that is being used and re-engineering.
8.)I think the most nature oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun..
9.)if you mess up one time everything can just get destroyed..
10.)-energy source
-be prepared
1-they do compare because they both ended up collapsing
ReplyDelete2-yes, I believe our civilization will be consumed because of our resources that we have
3-we need these resources without it everything will collapse for example soil to grow crops, water , oil and gas
4- it shows what will happen if a society do collapse
5- the steps leading up to a collapse is the economy and the money that was made expanding Roman
6- they are similar because we both need resources without it we would collapse just like them
7-according to Jared Diamond it would take energy supply that is being used
8-i think the most nature oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun
9- the way the civilization fight over another civilization can lead to debt and less recourses which would cause an collapse
10-valuablelessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is that the collapse of a civilization can happen in many ways not just resources but the smallest situations can turn into bigger situations and lead to collapse

1. The documentary compares the Roman Empire and Mayan Civilization because they both collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. No, I don not think or civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in-front of this because we can plan things fast and do what we need to do.
3. Rapid growth of our transportation and technology increases the likelihood of a collapse because these things can help protest us.
4. The abandoned power plant a metaphor for a modern civilization today because it shows the society collapsing.
5. The Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse because the money was getting used when it wasn't needed and people started to invade it.
6. The worlds energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis because they are expanded lil show we are and we both need resources like them.
7. According to Jared Diamond, we should decrease the amount of energy we use to solve our energy crisis.
8. The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun. Modernized countries did not make the attempts to harness this energy sooner because they never really thought about doing this.
9. Information that surprised me was that the Roman Empire spread out their nation a lot. I was least surprised about their weak military.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are
1. We should use our resources when we can
2. Changing our technology can make a big difference
3. Not to waste energy when its not needed.
the document compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were both strong civilization that plan for the future. 2. I think our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us because our nation is in protective bubbles that we are blind by our tribulation that we are causing, so much oil from the ground that we forget that we only have a limited supply. Also the same with water and gas. 3 our rapid growth in technology and transportation could be our down fall because it cause a great consumer of goods 4 the abandoned power plant is a metaphor for modern civilization because it show the consequence and reward of our action 5 Rome's appetite led to their collapse because their greed led to a depletion in their natural resources 6 Rome's energy crisis is similar to our energy crisis since we both have depleting amount of resources. on the other hand roman lose energy do to expanison we have our crisis do to greed 7)According to Jared Diamond reduce the chance of a modern collapse by transportation, clean energy, non congested cities 8. the natural and powerful is the sun 9. what surprise me the most in the segment is how how Rome, starting off as a small nation then quickly increased overtime to an empire what least surprising was roman collapse do to lack of resource 10 a valuable lesson is that many factor are out inbefore an empire is collaspe
ReplyDelete1-They documentary compares the roman empire and the Mayan civilization because they have so much in common and both collapse in the end.
ReplyDelete2-I don't think our civilization is consumed with the spoils of our success because we're probably prepared for anything.
3-The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of collapse by making us need more and more resources to actually support the advances.
4-An abandoned power plant is a metaphor for the modern civilization today by showing how a collapse can change everything in an instant.
5-Romes apetite for expansion ultimately leads to it's collapse by focusing too much on expanding and not focusing on what it took to expand.

8-Natures oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun.
9-The information i learned in this segment that surprised me the most is the legacy Rome made for themselves.
10-The valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are, Be prepared, Don't take resources for granted and to not be blinded by the success of the civilization and to move forward.
1. Why does the documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization? - It compares the two civilizations because they were both collapsed for similar causes.
ReplyDelete2. Do you think our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us? Take a position and defend your position using 3 reasons supported with specific evidence. - Yes I think that our civilization is consumed with the spoils of our success that we cant see the dangers right in front of us for example the fossil fuels that we use to power things such as our cars are estimated to last only a few more decades before we run out of them. Mind you this is a non renewable source.
3. How has the rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse? Explain in detail using cause and effect.- Rapid growth of our transportation and technology has increased the likelihood of a collapse because like stated in the video its estimated only a few decades and our fossil fuels will be used out. as well as us needing to control how much energy we use.
4. How is the abandoned power plant a metaphor for a modern civilization today? Identify and explain the connections. - It is a metaphor for a modern civilization because it shows how we take advantage and over use our resources.
5. How did Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse? Explain using cause and effect. It lead to the collapse of Rome because a majority of their money went towards expanding Rome and they didn't take into consideration they wouldn't have enough money to even feed their own people which led to starvation.
6. How is the world’s energy crisis like Rome’s energy crisis? Explain using compare and contrast.- The worlds energy crisis is like Romes energy crisis because we're both large in population and we both required a necessary resource. Their's being labor ours being oil.
7. According to Jared Diamond, what does it take to solve our energy crisis? According to him all it takes to solve our energy crisis is to stop using and find alternate ways.
8. What is nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source? Why do you think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner? Explain.- The oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun because it helped us grow our crops and still does as well to even drying our clothes outsides. Its modernized because now w use the sun as an energy source by using solar panels.
9. What information you learned from this segment surprised you the most? What information surprised you the least? Explain
1) The documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization they were both powerful and success civilizations that collapsed.
ReplyDelete2)Yes, I do think that our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us. It is because waste all the water, oil, and natural resource and we still more.
3) The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because we are constantly use oil for transportation such as cars, bus, airplane, etc. Also, for technology there are factories or other inventions that can cause air pollution which can lead to more global warming.
4) The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because we expanded it and made it bigger then when the bad times comes we just leave it.
5) Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its’ collapse because they collapsed after using up all their natural resources to support their empire and it had become more expensive to expand its land.
6) The world’s energy crisis like Rome’s energy crisis because they were too big like Rome.
7) According to Jared Diamond, it takes to reduce the amount of energy and power being used every day. to solve our energy crisis.
8) The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun.
9) The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most is that while things are going well, we can all of a sudden collapse like the other successful civilization. What surprised me the least is that we use too must natural resources.
10) The valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is to always plan ahead of time, not to take things for granted, and not to go beyond our expansion of population.
1) it compared the two empires, the Roman Empire and Mayan empire because these empires where both complex but they still collapse.
ReplyDelete2) I say we are the soil of our success because We as a society tent to take advantage of what we have.
3) the rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of collapse because most technologically requires resources and if we use it all that will result in collapse
4) The abandoned power plant is a metaphor because it shows how much we use up
5) Romes appetite led to their collapse because they had used all there resources and they had a lot of people .
6) the world's energy crisis is similar to Romes because we have a lot of people to use energy and resources so then we run out off it.
7) to resolve the energy crisis we should only use what we need and not what we want all the time.
8) the natural and oldest most natural resource is the sun.
9) I learned that we shouldn't take things for granted and treat everything valuable because u might need it later.
10) the lesson I learned was that greed will come back to hunt you.
According to the documentary they compare both civilizations because their both similar and different in many ways but they both have the same fate.
ReplyDeleteOur civilization is consumed by the spoils of our success. For example, our civilization drops it's guard and is surprise attacked like the Boston bombing.
According to the documentary our transportation and technology increases the likelihood for collapse because both transportation and technology need a lot of resources to function right.
An abandoned power plant is a metaphor for the modern civilization today because it represents collapse.
According to the documentary Romes appetite for expansion led to their collapse because they mostly only focused on expanding and nothing else.
According to the documentary the worlds energy crisis is like romes because we took energy for granted like the romans.
According to JD it takes clean energy, less pollution and peoples support to solve our energy crisis.
Narutres oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun
According to the documentary the information in this segment that surprised me the most was how rome was doing so well then just collapsed.
Valuable lessons that can be learned by this documentary is that people should always be prepared, people should help society grow, if nations aren't careful they may collapse.
1. Because The Roman Empire and the Myan Civilization both collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. Yes because we think just because everything is going good right now nothing bad can happen in the future. For example we have things like Water , Energy & Oil. When nobody is not realizing just because we have these things doesn't mean we're not lacking it.
3. Because they're not creating things that are useful for the future to prevent a collapse from happening.
4. Because it took 25% of energy out of oil and wasted the other 75% of the oil.
5. The Romans appetite for expansion led to a collapse because they ran out of territory to conquer and they came up short on cheap labor and fertile land to feed the expansion.
6. Because our easy source of conquest are coming to an end.
7. By developing an alternative energy source and reengineering our city's.
8. The worlds oldest and most powerful energy source would be the sun. Modern civilizations didn't harness because they are so accustomed to technology.
9. Something that surprised me the most was that power plants wasted 75% of oil & what surprised me the lease was that the Roman Empire collapsed.
10. 3 Valuable Lessons
1.Not To Waste Resources
2.Worry About Our Future
3.Help Make A Difference
-Elijah London
1. The documentary compare the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they both were consumed by their success and they both collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. Yes I think that our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the danger, 3 reasons why are wasting Oil, using unnecessary resources that are not even needed and sometimes
people forget during their success that something is lacking.
3.The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse because we running out of oil and which will then result in collapse.
4.The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a civilization today because people are not using it a lot now.
5. The Rome 's appetite for expansion ultimately lead to its collapse because they wasted their money.
6.The world's energy crisis like rome's energy crisis because they also needed resources like us which we both didn't have.
7.According to Jared Diamond , to solve our energy crisis we need to develop alternative energy sources and reengieering the cities.
8.Nature's oldest and the most powerful energy source is the sun and modernized countries did not attempt to make it because they might not be ready for it.
9.The information that I learned from this segment that surprised me the most that people running out of oil and started collapsing and the least that surprised me was that the sun was nature's oldest and most powerful energy source because I knew this.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are
1. Save oil
2. Don't waste resources
3. Work hard to prevent collapsing
-----gagandeep Singh-----
1. They compared Mayan civilization to the roman empire because both were consumed by there own success and little did they know after centuries of domination there civilization will eventually collapse.
ReplyDelete2.I think that our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers right in front of us, we are so compelled with our own beings that we don't look at the global issue. So we don't do anything about it and we don't conserve energy or water or even gas. We'll end up using it all at once which could lead to a global collapse.
3. With more transportation and technology developing, we would need more fuels and energy. We would have more than we could handle which could result in a shortage and the fall of our civilization.
4.The abandoned power plant is a metaphor because it shows that, that could happen to us in the future if we don't use our resources wisely. We might as well be living in our own ruins.
5. Romes appetite for expansion led to its collapse because as they expanded the need for resources goes up which costs you. Rome couldn't afford the growing population. They tried to thrive through peasant labor and had plentiful fertile soil, but as the population grew, the resources decreased. What was once a strong empire, eventually collapsed.
6.The world’s energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis because like Rome we're having trouble find our energy. Oil is the the lifeblood of modern day, and since oil is starting to be hard to find we could be on a verge of a global collapse.
7. According to Jared diamond, we would need to find alternative ways to get energy and re-engineer our cities. Such as using solar power energy or wind mills.
8. Natures oldest energy source would be solar powered energy. Modernized countries didn't try to attempt use this energy due to the fuel energy we were using. We had enough energy using fuel that we didn't think we needed solar power as well.
9.The information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most was how modern day are in a energy crisis and, for the first time in history, we could end up in a global collapse. The information that surprised me the least was the fall of the Romans and Mayans, looking back, you could tell they would eventually collapse because of there lack of resources and didn't prepare for the worst.
10. Some lessons i have learned from this segment is don't expand your nation, unless your absolutely sure you have enough resources to feed your people and its affordable. Another thing is to Converse energy and fuels and water, those are the main things we depend on the most, so we need to use it wisely. Lastly, Prepare for the worst, have a plan B if something goes wrong.
1.The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because they were consumed by their success and they both collapsed.

5.The Romans appetite for expansion led to a collapse because the Romans ran out of territory to conquer and they were short on cheap labor and fertile land to feed the expansion.
6. The world's energy crisis is similar to Romes because we have many of people to use energy and resources so we run out off it.
7.According to Jared Diamond , to solve our energy crisis we need to develop alternative energy sources and we also need to reengineer the cities.
8. Natures oldest and most powerful energy source has to be the sun.
9.I learned that we need to take care of the things we have and that we need to treat everything more valuable because we might need it later.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary are
1. Save oil
2. Not To Waste Resources
3. be prepared

8) The nature’s oldest and most powerful energy
9) The people was not able to grow their crops anymore because of drouts, it was hard for people to get food people was not able to get any food.
10)A valuable lesson that could be learned is you don’t.know what the future may have in store , so try your hardest to prepare the failure and the collapsing of a society.
1. The documentary compares the Roman Empire and the Mayan Civilization because both seemed like invincible civilizations but collapsed anyway.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, I think our civilization is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers in front of us but to an extent. In my opinion, we always find a solution to our problems. Whenever we are at a downfall in our country we use our knowledge and technology to recover from these situations which lowers our risks from a collapse. So yes I believe that our civilization is consumed with the spoils of our success but the danger in front of us is only a temporary issue.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation and technology increased the likelihood of a collapse due to the amount of oil being used for our automobiles and machines. Oil is an important resource and it's being over used for our advanced technology and also being wasted.
4. The abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today because it costs a lot of money to build only to be abandoned so quickly. This is similar to our modern civilization due to our rapid growth in change that can be abandoned at any given time due to a collapse.
5. Rome’s appetite for expansion ultimately lead to it's collapse because of the spoils of their conquest which was peasant labor and fertile land. They would conquer territory and steal in order to gain wealth but eventually it became no longer profitable.
6. The world’s energy crisis is like Rome’s energy crisis due to our resources becoming harder and more expensive to find.
7. According to Jared Diamond, it takes developing alternative energy sources and reengineering our cities to solve our energy crisis
8. Nature’s oldest and most powerful energy source is solar (sun) power. I think modernized countries did not make attempts to harness this energy sooner because they were too busy using up our other resources they believed they didn't need it.
9. Information I learned from this segment that surprised me the most was how the Roman Empire collapsed. I never knew the measures they took in order to gain wealth and resources. Information that surprised me the least was the growth in automobiles increasing likeliness of a collapse. A lot of oil is needed to fuel these automobiles which isn't good for the environment.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is to slow down on the use of our resources and try to find more than one energy source so that it can last longer.
10. Valuable lessons that can be learned from this segment of the documentary is, that the collapse of a civilization can happen in many ways. It can happen from decrease in energy source. Another lesson that can be learned from this segment is, that taking over so many areas will only last a little bit of time.

- Shemar Joachim
1. They were both very successful nations until a turn of events happened and they booth collapsed.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that we are because we are a people that will waste resources quickly, we are people known to be slow and not ready at all times, and we are too focused on less important things.
3. We are using the resources too much where there will be a point in time that they will run out which can lead to a collapse if we don't bounce back.

2. Not To Waste Resources
1. The document compares the Roman and Mayan empires beacuase it shows how both were great civlizations who were going through good times and expanding rapidly, but both still managed to collapse in the end.
ReplyDelete2. 3 reasons which prove that our nation is so consumed with the spoils of our success that we cannot see the dangers infront of us, includes the fact that many people use gas more than they need to failing to realize that this is a key source which should be saved for alternative energy. Many people act as if the nation has an ulimited amount of resouces which will back fire when certain resources are running out.
3. The rapid growth of our transportation and increase in technology leads to collapess beacause. Technology is improving and extending far beyond the pace of humans. Modern day people have so many technnilogical advances that they dont even know what to do wjth them and how to use them in a positive way to help them in the far-run.
4. The abandoned power plant js a metaphore for a modern day society because it shows how, people praised the electricity and the power plant, until they were introduced to gas and fuel. If they were good thinker they wouldve used the elctric and saved the gas for later.

~Yusuf Ally
1) Both civilizations seemed like they could never fail but from a lack of resources they couldnt survive
ReplyDelete2) Our civilization is consumed with the spoils of our success that we can not see the dangers infront of us. For example, 9/11, hurricane sandy & the stock market crash. With all events that occured effected the nation because we were so confident that we were untouchable that we had no plans for the bad days.

4.The Abandoned power plant is a metaphor for a modern civilization today, because the pace of change is the fastest now.
5. Rome led to their collapse because they had used up all their natural resources to support their empire and it had became more expensive to expand and this would lead to their collapse.
6. The worlds energy crisis was similar to Rome because we had a desire to be wealthy which we were, however in Rome their weakness for the expansion for growing their civilization led them making their people be slaves to do cheap labor, the Romans thought their expansion would last forever. They ran out of easy territory to conquer. Eventually their fuel system crashes resulting in their energy crisis.
7.Jared Diamond would take a reduction in energy supply that is being used and a re-engineering to our cities in order to solve our energy crisis.
8.Natures oldest and most powerful energy source is the sun.
9.I learned that we shouldn't take things for granted and treat everything valuable because u might need it later.
